A day after the pastor of the Santísima Trinidad church in Santiago de Cuba publicly denounced the accumulation of garbage in front of the temple, local authorities sent cleaning teams to remove the accumulated waste.
According to a post by the Parroquia Santísima Trinidad on their Facebook page, this Wednesday bulldozers were used to collect the waste that had remained in front of the main entrance of the temple for weeks.
The post included several photos from the operation and a brief message from the Gospel: “Woe to the one by whom the scandal comes” (Matthew 18:7).
The action came in response to the complaint made by Father Raoul Bekolo, who the day before described the situation as "outrageous, painful, and deeply disrespectful."
The priest had demanded that the authorities clean the area and ensure that the issue would not occur again.
For years, parishioners and residents of the community have reported the institutional neglect and lack of management of communal services in the area.
The Santísima Trinidad temple, one of the oldest and most emblematic in Santiago de Cuba, has witnessed the urban decay affecting the city.
"The respect for sacred places is also a way of taking care of our common home," the parish priest reminded in his previous post, where he urged that faith be demonstrated through concrete actions.
Although the trash has been removed, the Christian community insists on the adoption of permanent measures and the promotion of civic education that encourages respect for public and religious spaces.
