A fire occurred this Saturday in the elevator shaft of a building located at Calle L No. 355, between 23 and 21, in the Rampa Popular Council, in the El Vedado neighborhood (Havana).
According to the official account of the Plaza de la Revolución Administration Council, the fire was controlled with no reported human injuries or other damages to the property.
According to the information disclosed, the fire was caused by the accumulation of waste in the elevator area.
The publication attributes the outcome—without spreading to other areas of the building—to the "swift and professional" actions of the Fire Department, whose intervention helped control the situation on-site.
After the incident, several municipal authorities arrived at the site: Roilán Rodríguez Barbán, first secretary of the Municipal Committee of the PCC; Liliana Díaz Campa, president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power; Rolando López Jiménez, municipal mayor; and Pedro Lizardo Garcés Escalona, president of the district, according to the report.
The statement concludes with a public thank you to the firefighters for their service.
As of the available information, no additional details are provided regarding the exact magnitude of the fire, potential damage to the elevator, response time, or whether an investigation will be initiated or preventive measures taken in the building.
This is the second incident of this kind recorded in a month. One person died at the end of November in a ifire that occurred in an apartment of the building located at Lombillo 792, between Hidalgo and Estancia, in the Popular Council Plaza, Plaza de la Revolución municipality.
The incident occurred in late morning and immediately mobilized the forces of the Cuban Fire Department and specialists from the Ministry of the Interior (Minint).
The fires in the Cuban capital have once again highlighted the structural deficiencies and vulnerability of many buildings.
A few weeks ago, a fire in a building in Centro Habana prompted a significant mobilization of firefighters and residents, who watched as the flames consumed part of the structure and forced the evacuation of nearby homes.
Days later, authorities confirmed the causes of the incident in a statement where the local government revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical failure, a recurring problem in the old buildings of the municipality, many of which are in poor condition and have outdated wiring systems.
