The high travel season for Christmas has begun with significant complications at airports in southern Florida, affecting thousands of passengers traveling to celebrate the holidays.

Both Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) and Miami International (MIA) have reported dozens of delays and some cancellations, especially on the Saturday before Christmas.

According to a report by Telemundo 51, at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, as of 8:30 PM, there were 265 delayed flights and 11 cancellations recorded.

The most affected airlines include United Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Air Canada, American Airlines, and JetBlue.

Among the destinations with the greatest delays are Newark Liberty (EWR), Toronto Pearson (YYZ), Atlanta (ATL), Charlotte (CLT), and Chicago O’Hare (ORD).

For its part, Miami International also recorded 275 delays and three cancellations during the same timeframe.

The airlines most affected were American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, and JetBlue.

Regarding the destinations, flights to London Heathrow (LHR), Toronto Pearson (YYZ), Atlanta (ATL), Charlotte (CLT), and Chicago O’Hare (ORD) encountered the most significant issues.

Airport authorities and airlines recommend that travelers check the status of their flights before leaving home, arrive with extra time for security processes, and activate alerts in the official airline apps to receive real-time information about schedule changes and potential cancellations.

The congestion reflects not only the traditional increase in passengers during the holiday season but also the logistical challenges faced by airports in South Florida due to the massive influx of domestic and international flights.

This situation is expected to continue until after Christmas, making patience and advance planning essential for travelers.
