Representatives of the Academia Cubana de la Lengua (ACuL) and the Ministry of Communications of Cuba presented today a commemorative stamp for the 90th anniversary of the founding of that entity.
The event ―with free admission― took place at 10:00 AM on the third floor of the Santo Domingo Building (Obispo, between San Ignacio and Mercaderes, Old Havana), according to reports from Cuban media.
The postal issuance featured the signature of Nancy Morejón (director of the ACuL from 2012 to 2016); Rogelio Rodríguez Coronel (current director of the institution), and Marisela Fong Rodríguez (representative of the Ministry of Communications).
Darío Villanueva, the current director of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), and the Secretary General of the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language, Francisco Javier Pérez, participated in the event.
This Thursday, there will also be a meeting to discuss several projects, including the creation of a dictionary aimed at students.
The main event to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the institution is scheduled to take place tomorrow, September 30th, in the Aula Magna of the San Gerónimo University College.
At the event, Darío Villanueva and Javier Pérez will receive diplomas as Corresponding Members of the ACuL.
The celebrations will conclude with an international seminar that will take place from January 10 to 12, 2017. The purpose of this event will be to exchange ideas on the teaching of the Spanish language, grammar, writing, and oral skills.
Currently, the Cuban Academy of the Language consists of 27 full members and brings together writers, critics, linguists, and professors under the motto "Letter and Spirit."
It was founded on May 19, 1926, and among the founders of the ACuL are Fernando Ortiz, Enrique José Varona, Manuel Márquez Sterling, and Jorge Mañach.
Current members include Miguel Barnet, Graziella Pogolotti, Eusebio Leal, Nancy Morejón, Ambrosio Fornet, Ana Margarita Mateo, and Antón Arrufat, among others.
