A plane from the airline Aerogaviota disappeared early Saturday morning in an area near Las Terrazas, in Pinar del Río, with Cuban state media yet to report on the incident.
A relative of one of the crew members contacted CiberCuba Noticias and informed us that the aircraft has been located in an area known as "Las Lomas de San Cristóbal."
"The area is difficult to access by land, and the preliminary report indicates that there are no survivors," said the source.
"Although it's not official, members of a commission have already come to my house to inform me of what happened," he said.
The plane, which according to the source is an An26, regularly offered domestic flights from Baracoa Airport.
UPDATE:
We have received confirmation of the plane crash from the airline's offices in Cuba, and unfortunately, we have also been informed that there were fatalities.
Cuban official media have not yet reported the plane crash, but a source in Cuba has just confirmed to us that it involves an aircraft transporting military personnel, a fact that could explain the secrecy surrounding this information.
Aerogaviota S.A. operates local, regional, charter, and private flights and was established in 1994 by the Commercial Office of Air Services of the Gaviota S.A. tourism group.
The company also has its own Air Terminal, located at Playa Baracoa Airport in Havana.
