The 20-year-old right-hander, Richard Guasch, signed a contract with the Oakland Athletics organization, according to an internal source informed CiberCuba. The objective of the Santiago native, who is represented by Action Sport Montreal, will be none other than to climb the ladder of minor league levels to fulfill the dream of reaching the Major Leagues.

Although the bonus was not revealed, Guasch has the ideal height and starting angle to prevail against his rivals, and from Cuba, he was among the best pitching talents. About three months ago he became a free agent and his fastball has topped 94 miles per hour.

Guasch joins other Antilleans who have signed with Oakland, the case of receiver Marcos Betancourt, Yorlenis Noa and others who are already in the United States such as Norge Luis Ruiz, Dayron Blanco, Enrry Pantoja or Lázaro Armenteros.

Guasch was among the elite of pitchers in Cuba from the lower categories:

U-15 (2013): 8-0, 2.12 ERA, strikeout leader with 70.

Under-18 (2015): 5-1, 1.99 ERA

U-18 (2016): 8-2, 0.62 ERA, leader in ERA.

At the end of 2016, he and his teammate Oscar Luis Martén left the youth team on Mexican soil, to pursue the dream of reaching the Major Leagues.
