Rabat, Jan 25 (EFE).- The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, described on Friday as "inadmissible" and contrary to the UN charter the US position "and those who blindly follow them" on the situation in Venezuela.

It is "unacceptable conduct, which sabotages the principles of the United Nations charter and international laws," said Lavrov in Rabat, where he made a working visit as part of his tour of the Maghreb.

The Russian minister described the United States' position as "a destructive policy" because it means "a direct call for a coup d'état" and involves "interference in the internal affairs of countries."

Russia is so far the Venezuelan president's main international ally, Nicolás Maduro, along with China, Türkiye, Bolivia, Cuba and Nicaragua.

In fact, a few hours after Juan Guaidó proclaimed interim president of Venezuela on Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry published a statement in which it expressed its firm support for Maduro and denounced "the purpose of applying an already proven script to overthrow unwanted governments."
