The burly Cuban slugger Lázaro Alonso agreed to a contract in the Panama Winter League with the Chiriqui Federales, as CiberCuba learned from a source.
Alonso, 24 years old, is a Miami Marlins prospect who led the OBP section (.393) in the Florida State League, advanced Class-A level in 2019.
The first baseman hit .282/.381/.418, 21 2B and 12 HR (including a record 506 FT) between Class-A and Double-A in 2019.
With this addition Cuba has at least one player in all the Winter Leagues. The development achieved by Alonso contains an extreme understanding of the strike zone (4th in walks, 65) after leading the OBP (.393) in the Florida State League.
Panama reached the last title in the Caribbean Series through Herrera's Toros, so this circuit will allow Alonso to stay in rhythm and play and who knows if he can be seen in the next Caribbean Series,
What do you think?
