Havana prospects Darien Morejon and Eizon Delgado have been granted free agency by the MLB Commissioner's Office and will be able to sign with any Major League organization.
After January 15, 2021, when the 2020-2021 international signing period officially begins. Morejón is a 16-year-old right-handed pitcher from Havana City.
Since his arrival in the Dominican Republic he made an impression on some scouts and the Colorado Rockies are the favorites to sign him after January 15. He has thrown fastballs up to 92 miles and plans to continue making progress.
Eizon Delgado, on the other hand, is a 16-year-old shortstop also from Havana City. He went through the youth ranks and became part of the Cuba team preselections. The shortstop who runs the 60 yards in 6.3 chose to leave Cuba last March and due to the “coronavirus” pandemic he has not presented himself to scouts yet.
However, his tools say that he is an athletic, fast and strong player. He has been achieving more power since he has been in Quisqueya and batting towards the three wings, in addition to reliable defense.
These two Havana prospects have one of the current advantages in the international signing market: youth.
Major League organizations currently prefer to hire players between 16-18 years old with the aim of training them within the culture of professional baseball.
