Three people are detained for an alleged crime ofrobbery with continued force of character of nine moped vehicles, Cuban authorities informed the newspaperHavana Tribune.

The alleged suspects stole the electric motorcycles, of different brands and models, in several municipalities of the capital.

Before committing each criminal act, they monitored the scene and regardless of whether people were present in their home, they entered inside to achieve their purposes.

So far, five complete electric mopeds have been recovered, returned to the victims, and another four in parts and pieces that were seized after a home search carried out on the main defendant in the events.

The authorities have warned the population of the recent increase in criminal acts associated with this type of motorcycle. Thieves take advantage of the fact that these vehicles do not have an identifying license plate or serial numbering, which is why the Ministry of the Interior has announced that it will resume the procedure in vehicle registration units throughout the country to prevent similar events from occurring.

In October of last year, the Cuban Government began selling electric motorcycles to the population in foreign currency.

The extensive demand causedqueues around the establishments, even monitored by several police officers.

The prices of the electric motorcycles sold in these stores range between $999 and $1,666, depending on the model.

Despite their high prices, the vehicles are not very safe: so far this year,They have left one person dead and 11 others injured of varying severity because they caught fire during the loading process..

Given the high frequency of these events, the authorities have warned of indiscipline that can cause accidents of this type, one of them is the violation of the protection of the MBS, the device that monitors the battery work system.

In a report broadcast on state television, an expert recommended that the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) always use the manufacturer's original chargers for the motorcycle model in question.
