The Cuban pitcher Naikys Piedra was recently declared a free agent by the MLB Commissioner's Office, a source assured CyberCuba.
The prospect is a native of Matanzas and will be able to sign with any Major League organization as of January 15, 2021, the date on which the 2020-2021 international signing period will begin.
Several Cuban players have received permission from Major League Baseball to be hired and Piedra is another of the interesting players.
The right-hander emigrated from Cuba in 2019 after going through the EIDE performance pyramid and participating in multiple national championships.
In the Dominican Republic, Piedra has shown great power in his fastball (between 90 and 93 miles) in addition to putting his 6.4-foot physique to develop his complementary pitches.
He enjoys good athleticism on the mound and also supports a curve with good movement between 77 and 79 miles, along with the change he has incorporated between 81-83 miles.
