A man from Miami Beach allegedly sexually assaulted a woman after posing as a plastic surgeon and even performing some medical procedures on her, the police of that area in South Florida reported this Thursday.
Authorities are investigating whether there are more likely victims of this individual, identified as B. A. M., 35 years old, who was arrested this Wednesday at his residence.
According to the alleged victim, M. –who is also facing charges for an altercation on Tuesday with an ex-girlfriend at the Bally Total Fitness gym, located at 1259 Washington Ave– performed several procedures in her apartment on Lincoln Road before assaulting her.
Now M. is facing charges for various crimes, including sexual assault, practicing medicine without a license, distributing medication without a license, forgery, and possession of controlled substances.
Ernesto Rodriguez, from the Miami Beach Police Department, stated that “the most troubling aspect is not the details of this investigation, but the strong likelihood that there are additional victims out there.”
According to the police report, the accused met the woman last January through a mutual friend and told her that he was a plastic surgeon. She then invited him to her apartment, where he allegedly proceeded to administer several injections in areas of her face, arms, and legs.
Similarly, M. allegedly told the victim that he was also a gynecologist and performed vaginal rejuvenation procedures as well. After conducting a "test" with a metal object, his diagnosis was that she did not require such a procedure, according to the authorities' report.
After experiencing some reaction to the injections, the supposed doctor reportedly advised the woman to stay the night in the apartment to wait for the swelling to subside.
The report also notes that the administration of an unidentified drug caused the woman to lose her inhibitions. And that is how M. managed to have non-consensual sex with her, the victim told the authorities.
He, on the other hand, claims to have had consensual sex with the woman multiple times.
So far, the police investigations point to a false identity as a physician: M. does not have a medical license in Florida and presented a pay stub as an employee of Mt. Sinai Medical Center, which was found to be fraudulent, as proof for the rental of his apartment.
According to the man, he attended a school in the Caribbean, but he did not pass the required exams to practice Medicine in the United States. Through a court order, investigators found in his apartment some certificates from medical schools, several controlled substances, forged labels reading "Adderal," and a device for vaginal examinations consistent with the victim's allegations.
However, M. admitted that the professional certificates were fake, and that he had downloaded them from the Internet to then print them out and hang them on the walls of his home.
In any case, even when he was not advertised as a practitioner, M. acknowledged that he conducted check-ups on acquaintances or those referred through word of mouth, and that he relied on these services for part of his livelihood.
