Three men were arrested for beating and stabbing a man with his own knife during a violent altercation that occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday, outside a restaurant in Little Havana, Miami.
The incident occurred in front of the Café Honduras Maya, after the victim asked one of the suspects not to urinate in public.
The detainees were identified as Jose Luis Martinez, 41 years old; Deyton Odel Rojas, 32; and Helder Jose Rojas, 30, according to the arrest report from the Miami Police Department, cited by Local 10.
The three were arrested and face charges related to attempted second-degree murder.
How the attack began
The victim and a friend had just exited the restaurant, located at 2980 NW Seventh St., when they saw the suspects urinating in a parking lot alley.
According to the arrest report cited by Univision, the victim asked Martinez to stop, which ignited a discussion that quickly turned violent.
The victim's friend tried to calm the situation. He warned them that he was armed, but that he didn't want any trouble, and he put his weapon inside the vehicle.
When he came out again, the three suspects were already attacking the victim.
The victim was stabbed with their own knife
Two witnesses saw how the suspects lunged at the man and began to beat him.
The victim had taken out a knife to defend himself, but one of the attackers snatched it away and used it to stab him "multiple times" in the head and hands, while the others continued to kick him, according to the police report collected by Local 10.
The victim's friend was also attacked when he tried to intervene.
After the attack, the suspects attempted to flee in a white van. Martinez was arrested at the scene, while the other two were identified later.
The victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Their health status has not been publicly confirmed.
A video confirmed the victim's account
The police indicated that a video recorded with a cell phone and provided by the victim herself supported her account of how the attack occurred.
When questioned, the three suspects "admitted to having assaulted the victim; however, none of them confessed to having taken the knife or to having stabbed him with it," the authorities stated.
Deyton Rojas faces a specific charge of second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon, according to the arrest report cited by WSVN.
ICE Withholdings and Immigration Status
The three appeared before a judge on Monday for a bail hearing.
Helder Rojas was detained without the right to bail. Deyton Rojas was set bail at 15,000 dollars and Martinez at 10,500 dollars.
However, the three remained in custody at the time the reports were closed due to immigration detentions imposed by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Deyton and Helder Rojas are Nicaraguan citizens, while Martinez is a Mexican citizen.
The case occurs in a context of intensified immigration operations in Miami. Just days before the incident, ICE raids were reported specifically in Little Havana, with at least two Nicaraguans detained, according to videos shared on social media.
The ICE office in Miami has led immigration operations in the country, with an average of 120 arrests per day reported in April 2026 and over 41,000 total detentions since January 2025.
Little Havana, an iconic neighborhood in Miami that grew as an enclave of the Cuban exile beginning in the 1960s and now hosts communities from multiple Latin American countries, has been the scene of various violent incidents in recent years.
