A knife fight in the hallways of Miami Northwestern Senior High School in the Liberty City neighborhood left two young individuals hospitalized on Monday, according to local news reports.
The incident occurred just before 12:30 PM at the campus located at 1100 Northwest and 71st Street.
The Miami Fire Department responded after receiving reports of an altercation and found an 18-year-old young man with a stab wound and a 15-year-old teenager with a laceration on his hand.
Both were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.
What the video shows
Students recorded the confrontation with their cell phones, and the images circulated on social media.
In the video, two people are seen attacking a classmate in the hallway, hitting him and violently throwing him to the floor, while other students flee in panic.
It is also clearly heard one of the students warning that another was carrying a knife.
The scene caused immediate alarm among family members.
“Then how did that boy get in with weapons? So here they don't care, they don't check them, nothing,” questioned a relative of the students interviewed by Univision.
Another family member, identified as Mrs. Reina, expressed her distress: "Of course I'm worried. Right now, I told my nephew, avoid, avoid, avoid."
Deliano Doll, the father of a student at the school, was more direct: "I'm already eager to get her out of there because, just imagine, danger is everywhere, but you always worry."
The accused before the judge
This Wednesday, the 15-year-old boy identified as responsible for the stabbing appeared before a judge.
The court ordered his house arrest with an ankle monitor and set the next hearing for September 21.
Prosecutors announced their intention to charge him as an adult, a legal provision allowed by Florida law in cases of serious offenses committed by minors.
The defense of the teenager presented a different version of events. His lawyer argued that the young man was attacked first: "He was assaulted by two other individuals... in other words, he started as the alleged victim... he has no prior record... his parents are here in court."
The father of the accused, visibly distressed, stated that his son had been harassed for several days beforehand. “They had been instigating, threatening my son, mistreating him for several days, and (here) is the outcome,” he declared to Telemundo 51.
He added that he still hadn't been able to talk to his son and that he didn't know why he had a knife.
According to reports from WSVN, a total of three people were arrested in connection with the fight.
Additionally, the police found a firearm and drugs in a Jeep parked near the campus, and a 40-year-old man was arrested in connection with that discovery separately.
A team with a history of violence
Miami Northwestern is not unfamiliar with this type of incident. In October 2025, a 15-year-old student was arrested following a beating in a bathroom on campus.
A month earlier, security was increased after several fights were recorded on video, with three students summoned by the police.
Liberty City, the neighborhood where the school is located, has a history of armed violence that has impacted its student community for decades.
The Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) confirmed the incident and indicated that it resulted in criminal charges, without providing further details about those involved.
In a statement, the district reiterated its position: "The district takes the safety and well-being of its students and employees very seriously and remains committed to maintaining a safe school environment for all."
The case arrives at a delicate moment for the county's educational system: the 2026-2027 school year started with a decline in enrollment of over 15,000 students compared to the previous cycle, dropping from 230,172 to 215,078 students in schools directly managed by the district.
