The Cuban mountaineer Yandy Nunez He is already in Nepal and is on his way to Everest Base Camp, after leaving from Iceland, his adopted homeland, in his dream of conquering the highest mountain on planet Earth.
On April 2, upon arriving in Kathmandu, Nepal, the Cuban announced on his Facebook profile: “I am very excited to be here for the first time starting the first Cuban ascent of Mount Everest.”
Four days ago I had arrived in Luklas, a small town in the southeast of Nepal, located at 2860 meters high, near Everest where mountaineers converge on their expedition to the highest peak in the world.
“Well my expedition has officially begun. Today I start my Trekking to Everest Base Camp. Every day I sleep in a different town in the mountains”Yandy said on his Instagram profile The Cuban Mountaneer upon arrival in Lukla.
This Thursday, April 8, the Cuban showed a photograph on one of the suspension bridges on the way to Pangboche, on the route to Base Camp, his immediate destination.
Pangboche is located at an altitude of 3960 meters and will welcome you for two nights, to contribute to your acclimatization. From there you will go to Ama Dablam Base Camp, at 4600 meters high.
In another photograph the mountaineer is seen with his back to the Khumjung Buddhist Monastery at 3800 meters of altitude in the Khumbu region. Among the attractions of this monastery is the display in a glass urn of the scalp of a supposed Yeti, snowman.
The Khumbu region is part of the Himalayan mountain range whose altitudes tend to be disparate and range from 3,300m to 8,850 meters, which is the height of Mount Everest and the highest point on earth.
Yandy must continue the walk to the Base Camp at 5,300 meters, which rests on a glacier covered in rocky relief. From there the defining part of your expedition will begin.
The young mountaineer, who always carries the Cuban flag on all his expeditions, has told CyberCuba who wants to bring to Everest “a beautiful message of freedom for all those Cubans who dream of a different homeland. I also want to take Homeland and Life to the top of the world.”
