A fish, two bottles of soda, a bottle of rum and other gifts went into the hands of the Cuban boxer.Julius Caesar the Cross, after shouting "Patria o Muerte" at the Tokyo Olympics held this summer, where he won the gold medal.
The gifts were given to the boxer in theIndustrial Fishing Company of the municipality of Santa Cruz del Sur (EPISUR), according to the official press in a report where it highlighted that the Olympic champion also received crafts as gifts.
“On the occasion of his visit to EPISUR, the two-time Olympic champion Julio César la Cruz received several gifts, among them gifts made by the hands of creative women,” describes the Camagüey television report.

La Cruz, a native of Camagüey, won the title in Tokyoafter beating the Russian world champion Muslim Gadzhimagomedov, in the heavyweight division.
Nicknamed “La Sombra”, he attended the Olympic competition as captain of the Cuban boxing team. By winning gold in the Japanese capital, he became a two-time Olympic champion, after also winning the games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Before discussing the title in Tokyo, La Cruz faced his former teammate, the Cuban nationalized Spanish Emmanuel Reyes, who competed for the European country. “Not Homeland and Life, Homeland or Death, we will win,” said La Cruz in an interview after defeating Reyes, in response to some statements by the latter. Even the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated the boxer for his phrase in a phone call. “In addition to winning today, that patriotic attitude was a gift to this people,” Díaz-Canel told him.
In the middle of the month, images went viral of an “award” for a young boxer who arrived on the island after winning gold in a Pan American qualifying event held in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Some athletes like the Cuban gymnastManrique Larduet Bicet, did not hide their indignation at the images and the commotion they caused. “Hopefully one day the government will review these attentions, Cuban athletes cannot continue being the laughing stock of the world,” Larduet wrote.
