The construction of new soccer stadium for Inter Miami will be decided in a crucial vote of the City Commission, which will define whether or not it supports redevelopment plans at the Melreese golf course.

The construction plans of the Miami Freedom Park include a huge shopping center, a hotel, a park and of course, the headquarters for the team, partly owned by the famous former British footballer David Beckham.

“We have an agreement, in principle,” said the mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez to the newspaper The New Herald. Now everything depends on what the Commission decides, the politician added, because in the coming days city officials must begin to present the terms of the contract to the commissioners.

In 2018 The referendum was held that allowed a public tender to be omitted and negotiate only with the owners of the Inter Miami to achieve the enormous real estate transformation that will take place 131 acres of land east of the city's International Airport.

For the new stadium agreement to be approved, four of the five votes of the Commission. Until now, one of its members, Manolo Reyes, has stated that will vote against the project, so everything depends on the remaining members.

In conversations with Inter, a Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise, were also discussed four legal documents: two for leases, a non-relocation agreement and the last for construction management.

The new stadium It would have capacity for 25,000 spectators and would allow the team to play in their own city, since since 2020 they have done so in their renovated practice facility in Fort Lauderdale.

The other franchise owners, the Mas brothers, they want to negotiate a 99-year no-bid lease with the city, which would then mean lThe construction of the complex in what is today the only municipal golf course within the limits of Miami.

The initiative aims be financed with private funds, as opposed to the way other sports teams like the Miami Marlins. In this way they intend to generate tax gains for state and local governments, in addition to other public benefits.
