Accident between two trucks leaves three dead and several injured in Matanzas

A traffic accident in Colón, Matanzas, resulted in three fatalities and several injuries after a private passenger transport truck collided with another truck used for transporting sugarcane.

In the accident that occurred last Sunday afternoon on the road leading to the municipality of Perico, a man and a woman died instantly. The third victim, another woman, passed away on Monday due to complications from a head and chest injury, as reported by journalist Iris Quintero Zulueta from TV Yumurí.

Investigations are currently ongoing to determine the causes of the unfortunate accident.

The information shared by Quintero Zulueta on his social media specifies that three of the injured—one of whom is a minor—had to be transferred to hospitals in the city of Matanzas due to their serious condition.

The remaining individuals injured in the accident were treated at the Mario Muñoz Monroy Teaching Hospital in Colón. According to the same source, four patients with minor injuries have already been discharged from the facility.

In the tragic accident that occurred at the location known as the "Tinguaro" overpass, a third vehicle was involved: "a light car that was also traveling with two passengers."

In the case of the occupants, they did not sustain any significant injuries, and only damage to the vehicle was reported.

The sugarcane transport truck, a "Kamaz" with license plate B 199731, was traveling loaded with sugarcane, including the trailer it was towing. Judging by the photographs shared by the TV journalist Yumurí, the third vehicle involved may be a blue Hyundai.

Another tragic accident occurred on Saturday in the Havana municipality of El Cotorro, when the driver of a motorcycle, attempting to avoid a pothole while speeding, collided with another motorcyclist traveling in the opposite direction. At least two people died as a result of the impact.

At the end of January, a Cuban teenager tragically lost her life in a railway accident in the province of Ciego de Ávila while attempting to cross the train tracks on her bicycle. The incident occurred at the intersection of the railway line and Narciso López Street in the provincial capital.
