"I, Bárbaro de Céspedes Hernández, in use of my full physical and mental faculties, declare myself on HUNGER AND THIRST STRIKE, determined to expose my life as the only and last resort to prove my innocence in the face of the unjust prosecution to which I have been subjected for the alleged crime of ATTACK," says a message sent by the prisoner.

Daymis de Céspedes Sánchez, daughter of the activist, shared an audio on Facebook sent by her father from prison, where he is heard saying: "Guard, inform your superiors that the Patriot is on a hunger and thirst strike, ready to die." for freedom and homeland."

Imprisoned for participating in the protests of July 11, 2021 in his province, the opponent was put on trial last December. His daughter described the process as a "circus" where the man was accused of disobedience and instigation to commit a crime.

Daymis assured that for the charge of disobedience, the prosecution did not have witnesses or a solid alibi at trial.

For "instigation to commit a crime" they ask him for nine months in prison because - according to State Security - De Céspedes made a live broadcast inciting the people to take to the streets on June 11.
