They deliver 20 electric tricycles in Playa for taxi service in the face of the transportation crisis in Havana

With capacity forsix people, tocost of 4 CUP, and 120 kilometers of battery, the tricycles will provide7 a.m. service at 7 p.m., on three routes announced in the middle of the month. On that occasion, the General Directorate of Provincial Transportation in the capitalhad informed that the first two itineraries would leave from 3rd and 80th and 120th Avenue to La Ceguera Hospital, while the third would begin at 120th and end in La Puntilla.

However, route 3 was modified because it exceeded the required mileage, according to the Transport Company in response to a comment from an Internet user on Facebook. The departure point of this third route was set at the CSO Gerardo Abreu Fontán parking lot, located on Avenida 112.

The delivery of the tricycles took place in an official ceremony, as part of the celebrations for the503rd anniversary of the founding of the Villa de San Cristóbal of Havana.

Five new vehicles must be incorporated in the coming days to this Ecotaxi service that promotes a more ecological transportation system, according toHavana Tribune.

The itineraries of this service, after the changes in the third route, will be as follows:

Origin: 3rd and 80 - Hospital La Ceguera

One way itinerary: Piquera de 3ra A and 80 - Avenida 3ra - Calle 84 - Calle 13 - Avenida 70 - Calle 29 F - Calle 72 - Avenida 31 - Avenida 41 - Calle 76 - Parque de La Ceguera.

Return itinerary: Calle 76 - Avenida 31 - Avenida 42 - Calle 72 - Calle 29 F - Avenida 70 - Calle 13 - Calle 84 - Avenida 3ra - Piquera de calle 3ra A y 80.

Origin: Calle 120 - La Ceguera Hospital

One-way itinerary: Calle 120 (Paradero de Playa) - Calle 29e - Enlace A 25 - Ave 25 - Calle 114 - Avenida 31 - Avenida 41 - Calle 76 - Parque de La Ceguera.

Return itinerary: Calle 76 - Avenida 41 - Avenida 31 - Calle 114 - Ave 25 - Ave 120 to Paradero Playa.

Origin: Ave 112 - La Puntilla

One-way route: Calle 112 CSO Gerardo Abreu Fontán parking lot - Ave 3ra - Calle Cero - Calle 1ra - La Puntilla.

Return itinerary: La Puntilla - Calle 1ra - Calle Cero - Calle 3ra- Parqueo del Fontán.

It is intended that this offer complements the bus routes in that area of the capital, while promoting new jobs, in the midst of the generalized transportation crisis in Cuba.

The newspaper states that it is "an affordable, fast and efficient alternative, as a complement to the public bus service." However, comments on social networks express fear and concern about corruption, the state of the streets and the overload that the new teams will experience.

Likewise, some Internet users foresee difficulties in charging the batteries of the electric tricycles due to the constant blackouts as a result of theenergy crisis existing in Cuba.

This transportation alternative began in Havana in 2020, as a project of the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP).

First it started in Old Havana, thenspread to Boyeros and Guanabacoa, and the government's purpose is to take it to the 15 municipalities of the city.
