A video circulating on social networks shows a group ofCuban mothers fleeing, many of them with their children in their arms or in strollers, from acola to buy diapers in whichpolice sprayed pepper spray to disperse the crowd.
In the images, which last just over a minute, you can even hear some people coughing. The incident occurred in the storeThe Comadrita, located inOld Havana, according to activist Yannis Estrada on Twitter. The establishment is located on Teniente Rey street between Habana and Aguiar.
In the video, witnesses are heard attacking the police with expletives for not taking into account the presence of minors before undertaking a repressive act of this nature.
“Grab his badge when he comes out…” someone recommended.
"I was there, all the women started saying things to him and he made the mistake," argued a witness.
“Queue to buy culeros in Havana. The repressors throwspray with months-old children without thinking about the consequences. As always, they act with impunity. What else needs to happen? “This is criminal, really.”, activist Julio Góngora wrote on Facebook.
The unpleasant incident - which is not clear when it occurred - has been greeted with dozens of shocked comments from Internet users who cannot believe what happened.
In March 2022, the Cuban governmentincluded products in very high demand such as disposable diapers and wet wipes on the list of items regulated for retail sale in stores in national currency (CUP).
As announced then, the measure had the objective of putting a stop to the hoarding, resale and speculation of essential items for mothers of young children.
It is not the first time in recent weeks that the Cuban police have used pepper spray to disperse a queue. At the end of December in Santa Clara he used the chemical compound to disperse people who werein a massive queue to buy mayonnaise.
Pepper spray is a chemical compound that irritates the eyes to the point of causing tears, pain, and even temporary blindness. It is used to disperse riots or as personal defense. In exceptional cases it can cause death.
