Two women arrested at Miami airport for assault after arriving late to check-in

Both were accused of resisting authority with violence and disturbing public order.

Two women were arrested at Miami International Airport this Tuesdayassault an employee, after arriving 45 minutes late to check-in for his flight to Atlanta.

In a video posted on the Instagram accountOnly in Dade, several police officers are seen subduing the women on the ground, in the registration area of the Frontier airline. One of the young women, lying on the floor, screamed over and over again while the officers tried to calm her spirits.

"There must be something about the water in Miami. The passengers who appear in the video arrived late to check-in and physically attacked a member of the team who required medical treatment," the site's account reads.

According to authorities, the two women, residents of North Carolina, were prevented from boarding their flight to Atlanta due to the considerable delay.

One of them, Makyan Mercer, 20, began arguing and threw a plastic sign holder at an employee, causing a cut on her face, according to the arrest report, to which she had access.NBC Miami.

Officers detained Mercer, and a second woman, identified as Janaeah Negash, 21, attempted to interfere with the arrest, stepping between officers and yelling, "Don't touch her!"

Negash was also arrested and charged with resisting arrest with violence and disorderly conduct; while Mercer was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest with violence and disorderly conduct.

The injured employee was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.

Other brawls at Miami International Airport have emerged in previous months.

At the end of December, a woman was arrested at that airfield afterlaunch a computer monitor at an American Airlines employee at a company boarding gate and causing serious damage to the lounge.

The passenger was verifying her papers with the airline agent when her two youngest children left her without anyone noticing to use the bathrooms. Upon realizing this, the woman became angry and began to scream, demanding that the employee find the children.

A fight at the air terminal was reported by an employee at the end of 2021, when several passengers began to protest, after several hours of waiting, against the cancellation of a flight with a final destination to Holguín.

When a police officer arrived, an "unruly passenger" had taken the keys to an airport transportation golf cart and was refusing to let the employee leave in protest of the cancellation of the flight to Cuba.
