Unión Eléctrica de Cuba predicts peak hour impacts of 230 MW

While last Sunday, election day in Cuba, the UNE reported a generation capacity of 2,920 MW, a week later and with similar conditions in the national electricity system, the capacity is reduced by almost 500 MW.

A week afterelections to deputies of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), Cubans once again have news of theElectrical Union (UNE), and not precisely to inform them of the resolution of their problems, but of thereturn from blackouts.

The state company that monopolizes the country's electricity service announced this Sunday that peak hours would be affected due to a deficit in generation capacity of 230 megawatts (MW).

“For the peak hour, an availability of 2,460 MW and a maximum demand of 2,620 MW is estimated, for a deficit of 160 MW, so if the expected conditions are maintainedan impact of 230 MW is forecast during this time”said the UNE on its social networks.

Even with the main thermoelectric plants out of service (Felton, Renté and "Antonio Guiteras"), last SundayUNE predicted an availability of 2,920 MW for election night.

The difference between last Sunday's availability and this one (almost 500 MW) is not mentioned in the UNE information note, which returns with its litany of maintenance and breakdowns, without providing a detailed and coherent explanation that allows us to understand why. why the national electroenergy system (SEN) is capable of such disparate generation values with the same infrastructure and similar generation capacity.

What for some cannot be explained based on the information provided by the UNE, for many was nothing more than a strategic decision by the Cuban regime.increase the generation of electrical energy to guarantee the vote of the population.

This Sunday, according to the UNE "it is estimated that during daytime hours there will be no impacts on the service due to a deficit in generation capacity." But at night and during peak hours the panorama will be different, dark again.
