Bruno Rodríguez meets in Havana with the Chancellor of Switzerland

Cassis and Rodríguez took stock of diplomatic relations after two decades of Swiss development cooperation in Cuba. They touched on the issue of human rights on the island.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba,Bruno Rodriguez Grill, met this Monday withIgnatius Cassis, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) of the Swiss Confederation.

Rodríguez highlighted thatCuba and Switzerland have 120 years of diplomatic relations uninterrupted. The Cuban Foreign Minister assured that he discussed with his counterpart issues related to "the development of cooperative ties and economic and commercial opportunities."

The meeting took place after the Swiss Embassy in Havana warned this Friday that its government would putend to development cooperation with Cuba in 2024.

Cassis is locatedofficial visit in Cuba until April 12. This Monday's meeting with Rodríguez was planned as a space for taking stock after two decades of Swiss development cooperation on the island.

The ministers discussed thegradual cessation of cooperation activities. On the agenda they also planned to play thehuman rights situation in Cuba and discuss theChallenges facing Swiss investors who maintain or wish to do business with Cuban companies.

TheSwiss Embassy in Cuba He noted last week that his country's bilateral development cooperation in Latin America is being progressively reduced in accordance with the International Cooperation Strategy 2021-2024.

This WednesdayCassis will travel to Washington to attend the spring 2023 meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.
