Díaz-Canel celebrates his 63rd birthday, re-elected president by Parliament

The National Assembly ratified Miguel Díaz-Canel as president of Cuba until 2028, despite the acute economic, social and political crisis that has prevailed during his government.

Lisa Cuesta, Díaz-Canel's wife, was one of the first people to congratulate the ruler. He did it with a message on Twitter that was accompanied by a photo of the president dressed as a baseball player, with a glove in hand and the ball hidden.

"Congratulations my love! May life reward you with more health, intelligence, patience and strength to continue pushing this island and serving your people, whom you love so much, and may I, together with our family, protect you more," Cuesta said.

This Wednesday the National Assembly of People's Power ratifiedMiguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in the position of president of Cuba. His new mandate comes in the midst of an acute energy, economic, social and political crisis. It will extend until 2028.

The Cuban leader wasreelected with 459 votes. This represents 97.66% of the total number of deputies. There was no unanimity, and two votes were blank.

After being confirmed in his position aspresident of cubaDíaz-Canel said that he feels indebted to the people.

"Dear people to whom I am proud to belong, receive the respect, admiration and immense affection of those who always feel indebted. I confirm that I will serve you with passion, commitment, without reluctance, until the last consequences," he expressed in a message on Twitter.
