The series premiereMonte Cristo has its protagonist, the Cuban actor and modelWilliam Levy, immersed in a rally of interviews and appearances on Spanish television sets, as part of the promotion.
Interviewed on April 18 on the radio program “La Ventana”, of theSER chain, Levy acknowledged that he generally maintains a positive attitude in life thanks to the bad experiences he had in his country of origin.
“I have such a strong trauma with Cuba, that the truth is that it marks you in a positive way. I am leaving Cuba at the age of 15 and that marked me in a positive way. "I have always seen everything positive," said the actor before the microphones of the program hosted by the prestigious Spanish journalist.Carlos Francino.
For Levy, the memories he has of Cuba are a constant in his life. The shortcomings he had in his childhood They now make the most of and enjoy everything around them to the fullest, as he recognized in November 2022 in an interview for the magazineGQ.
“My childhood was very nice, even though we had nothing. We lived under the direction of a government that fed us whatever it wanted. The rations were one loaf per person per day, and a quarter of a chicken per person per month,” the artist then confessed.
Interviewed for “La Ventana,” Levy insisted on the painful nuance of his memories and considered that there was “nothing worse than living where your freedom is taken away.”
“What I went through in Cuba… It is impossible to go through something so strong again, except for the loss of a loved one. But, on the other hand, there is nothing that could be worse than living in a place where your freedom is taken away,” said the 42-year-old actor.
In May 2022, before the cameras of “El Hormiguero”, a popular Spanish television program broadcast by Antena 3, the protagonist ofwoman-fragranced coffee expressed a similar idea. “In Cuba you experience many shortcomings, but the hardest thing is having your freedom taken away, that they take away the gift that God gives you, which is freedom,” said the actor.
With his latest production released through the Vix+ streaming platform, the Cuban who plays Alejandro Montecristo acknowledged that he has no relationship with Cuba, except for being his homeland.
“None, zero, nothing. I have nothing to do with 'that'. “I love Cuba because it is my land, but I don't have any type of relationship,” said the actor, born on August 29, 1980 in Havana.
Immersed in recent days in promoting the series and telling some details of the story and its filming process, the actor acknowledged to the magazinePeople in spanish that the resemblance they achieved on the set with the island moved him very much.
When he saw the Montecristo locations that recreate the Cuban scenes (filmed on the island of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands), Levy was very excited. “It transported me to Cuba. I cried on set because I couldn't help it. Those are the things that if something that I experienced can move me, I hope that it moves people too.”
Levy is one of the Cubans who raised his voice to speak out about the historic 11J protests in Cuba. “My heart is broken seeing how they kill my brothers. This regime is terrible, I have too much anger, pain, helplessness. And I do not know what to do.I want to go to Cuba, I want to go with them”, said the actor on a network programTelemundo days after demonstrations that marked a milestone in independent Cuban civil society.
