Residents of the Ho Chi Minh community, in Guantanamo, showed their indignation against the police brutality suffered by Lenier Ricardo del Río, also known as "Pocho", after being arrested, accused of attack and with a bail of 10 thousand pesos.

The events occurred shortly after protests in Caimanera, although they are not related to that incident. The police arrested Leandro Ricardo Rodríguez, a 16-year-old minor nicknamed "Baby", for allegedly being involved in a case of theft and slaughter of large livestock.

Del Río intervened to defend his son, however, the police officers responded with violence, causing an injury to his eyebrow, according to what the young man told CubaNet.

Subsequently, they took "Bebé" to Park 24 and then to the Police Operations Department, and although he was released after four days, his father is still detained on the charge of attack.

Ricardo Rodríguez insists that his father did not attack anyone, but simply tried to protect him when he realized that he had no relationship with the crimes attributed to him.

Ester Rodriguez, sister-in-law of the accused, revealed that the authorities are demanding a bail of 10 thousand pesos, an amount that they refuse to pay and blamed the head of the sector, José, for causing this situation.

A neighbor who witnessed the beating also supported the facts, calling the police officers abusers and stating that "Baby's" father was just trying to find out why his son was being taken away.

Neighbors of the family have mobilized to provide testimony in support of Lenier, describing him as a hard-working man who does not get involved in problems with anyone.

The crime of attack, included in article 182 of the new Penal Code Cuban, establishes prison sentences of two to five years "for anyone who uses violence or intimidation against an authority, a public official, or their agents or auxiliaries, to prevent them from carrying out an act typical of their functions." The penalty can be three to eight years if there are other aggravating factors.
