Andalmond -apparently a Buick car- was destroyed after crashing this Monday on the highway inViñales, in Pinar del Río, against a state truck of the Caribbean Mining Mixed Company (EMINCAR).
Despite images published in the group ofFacebook Bus & Truck Accidents which reveal the painful state in which the old car was left, apparently there were no serious injuries.
The author of the publication limited himself to indicating that the accident occurred on the Viñales highway, but did not offer other details about the incident.
The circumstances of the accident are also unclear, but One factor that could have influenced the accident is that the pavement was wet from the rain.
Users of the aforementioned Facebook group pointed out that although this stretch of road is one of the best in the country, it is still dangerous, while they recommended driving with caution, even more so if it is raining.
Although the Viñales highway does not show the extreme deterioration of other Cuban roads, several Internet users who have used it believe that it is not very good either.
"It's just that there is a lot of 'yumas' traffic in that area and they have them painted like this"said one commentator.
One of the problems in the area is the large number of curves, which increases the chances of accidents if proper precautions are not taken.
"Because it is one of the most curved roads in Cuba, they have limited speed and overtaking throughout that stretch, but the drivers mostly ignore it, especially with the wet pavement," said one Internet user.
"Accidents have increased for many reasons: old vehicles, with innovations, poor condition of the roads, all that, but in 80% the main cause is excessive speed and paying attention when driving and especially the use of cell phones, video players, etc., man is the main actor in an accident," added the same commentator.
During the first four months of 2023, more than 3,000 accidents were recorded in Cuba, with243 deaths and more than 2,300 injured, according to official data released this month.
According to statistics, one in five people involved in traffic accidents has died. The figure, however, represents a decrease in the number of deaths due to accidents in relation to the same period of the previous year.
The main causes of accidents are violation of the right of way, failure to pay due attention, excessive speed and technical malfunctions of vehicles. 89% of incidents are the responsibility of the human factor.
Cuba closed 2022 with 9,848 traffic accidents between January and December, a figure that represented a record compared to previous years.
The accidents in that period left a toll of 700 dead, almost two a day; Of them, 68 were minors. Additionally, 7,547 people were injured.
