Four dead and dozens injured in deadly tornado in Texas

At least 11 cases of tornadoes were recorded in the west and center of the country; six of them in Colorado, three in Texas, one in Wyoming and one in Nebraska.

Andtornado that devastated a small town in northwest Texas left a preliminary toll of four people dead and more than 10 injured on Wednesday night.

The deadly tornado hit Matador, a town of a few hundred people about a 280-mile drive northwest of Dallas, on Wednesday night, the network said in a report.CNN.

"The city of Matador has sufferedan unprecedented tornado which has brought damaging winds to the city," the Lubbock Fire Department stated. "There are four confirmed fatalities and ten injuries in total. "Seven of which were transported by EMS and three by personal vehicle."

The search for the injured and deceased is still ongoing as teams investigate possible visitors or drivers who were in the area when the tornado struck, Sergeant Johnny Bures of the Texas Department of Public Safety said Thursday.

Among the fatalities is aold woman who died at home, according to Mayor Dvonna Grundy.

The tornado destroyed Grundy's home - leaving her without clothes or medicine - and scattered o killed many of the cattlethat he had on his property, the official said.

"It's completely gone," Grundy said, adding that all his chickens were missing and most of their cattle and horses were dead.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, the tornado occurred while strong storms hit towns in the western and central United States and at least 11 cases of tornadoes were recorded in the western and central part of the country, six of them in Colorado, three in Texas, one in Wyoming and one in Nebraska.

This Thursday, more than 42 million people are at risk of severe weather from Wyoming to Texas and in parts of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas, the Storm Prediction Center said.

Crews and law enforcement from Wichita Falls responded to Matador to assist with search efforts.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday updated the state's disaster declaration following the tornado.

"The disaster declaration will continue to support Texas response and recovery efforts to extensive damage in 21 Texas counties, including the following counties added today: Motley, Nolan, Fisher, Jones, Kent, and Stonewall counties," it stated. an announcement from the governor's office.

Wednesday's deadly tornado was the secondcatastropheof this type occurred in Texas in less than a week.

Othertornado killed at least three people and injured dozens more in the Texas Panhandle town of Perryton, about 180 miles north of Matador, on June 15, authorities said.
