An investigative report shed light on the alleged misuse of millions of taxpayer dollars byArthur “Duke” Sorey III, former city manager of North Miami Beach.

The document, carried out by special counsel Michael A. Pizzi, Jr., was commissioned by the City Commission for the purpose of investigating the alleged misappropriation and misuse of public funds during recent years, he said.Local 10 News.

Pizzi said the report not only reveals isolated errors or occasional negligence, but also evidences willful ignorance of the well-known rules governing budget spending.

The figures presented in the report indicate an alarming lack of control and responsibility in the management of the city's resources.

Among the most scandalous findings are personal expenses on Amazon worth close to $300,000, as well as a surprising $300 alimony payment.

The report also suggests that city resources and funds were used to support political candidates, which represents a serious violation of ethics and legality.

The primary focus of the investigation centered on abuse of the city's P-card program, designed to expedite small-dollar purchases. However, according to the report, the figures showed that $1,382,062.27 was wasted on expenses that violated established policies.

Among the most egregious expenses, according to Pizzi, were exorbitant food purchases, charitable contributions, purchases in retail stores and online, as well as leisure and entertainment purchases. The list includes books, music, personal items and a $1,200 ticket to a Miami Marlins game, among others.

One of the most worrying aspects is the apparent concealment of improper expenses. Pizzi revealed that a city database showed fewer purchases on issued P cards, suggesting possible tampering with records. Additionally, city employees previously arrested for stealing Publix gift cards for residents are also listed in the report.

In the midst of this chaos,City Manager Arthur “Duke” Sorey III He was removed from office in March 2023 after being cited multiple times in the investigation report. City commissioners voted to fire him after his alleged ties to P-card waste were revealed.
