A man dies in a collapse in Old Havana

The deceased's name was Jorge Luis Jorrín Guides, 54 years old, and after the collapse he was trapped in the rubble, from where he was rescued already dead, according to the official report from the Government of Havana.


Andman died after acollapse in a building in Old Havana on Wednesday afternoon, according to official sources.

Rescue and Rescue Forces, the Police and Public Health went to the site of the collapse, at 913 Compostela Street between Velazco and Desamparados, said apublication on an official profile on Facebook.

According to the post, authorities confirmed the death of a person as a result of theSinister, although they did not reveal details of their identity.

Moments after the collapse occurred in the afternoon, a neighbor from the block, identified as Yeny P. Gómez,confirmed on social network whatthe fatal victim was a man, of legal age, family of the people in the house.

According to his testimony, "the ceiling of the room" where the victim was was fell. He also said that the children and other people had already left the house where the collapse occurred.

"Collapse on the corner of my house... uuufff. Tremendous scare, the entire building shook," said the young woman, still nervous and impressed by the event.

In the videos he posted, dozens of neighbors are seen near the entrance of the building and the ambulance in which the body was going to be removed.

One person commented: "They took it out quickly so no one would see it." While another of those present is heard saying: "That is a crime, that is a crime", and then, in response to someone, she adds: "No one is going to pay for that." And a third person assures: "Nobody pays anything here, that's a story."

According to recent reports, in the last few hoursIt has rained heavily in Havana, which could have contributed to the collapse of the roof, given the deplorable conditions of a high percentage of the homes in the historic center and other municipalities of the Cuban capital.

At the end of August, at leasttwo landslides in the capital, after the heavy rains associated with the passage of Hurricane Idalia through the western end of Cuba. In one of the incidents, part of a building collapsed in Old Havana and in the other, the corners of a building in Vedado collapsed.

At least16 people were affected in the first incident, including six children and two disabled adults, after the main entrance of the property located on Prado Street #352, corner of Neptuno, collapsed. Several people were trapped and had to be rescued by a rescue team, the Havana government said.
