Ugás couldn't beat Barrios in Las Vegas

Ugás had problems with his right eye and had to be examined several times by the doctor. Barrios knocked him to the canvas in the second and twelfth rounds.

Cuban professional boxerYordenis Ugás was defeated on Saturday by the AmericanMario Barrios in his fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) interim 147-pound title.

Ugas, 37 years old, was surpassed by Azteca, nine years younger, who left no doubt about his victory to the judges at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, who unanimously gave him a score of 118- 107, 118-107 and 117-108.

After a year and a half without entering the ring, the Cuban had problems with his right eye, and in the last rounds he had to be examined several times by the doctor. It is the eye that was injured in his fight against Errol Spence and that took him to an operating room.

Barrios fought without frontal attacks and with his rear guards covered, a strategy with whichhe knocked out Ugás in the second and twelfth rounds.

In the seventh round, the Cuban's right eye began to swell and close in a dangerous way, something that his opponent took advantage of, who worked in that area to worsen his situation.

Starting in the ninth round, the referee twice asked for the doctor from the Nevada Combat Sports Commission to come.

Finally, in the twelfth Ugás needed another protection count that sealed his defeat.

Some followers of the boxer believe that his coach Ismael Salas should have prevented the fight from going to the end.

"The question I have is the following: Was Salas not worried about Ugás' eye?" he questioned in hisFacebook the Cuban boxing expertWillie Suarez, who attended the T-Mobile Arena, and pointed out that the coach is responsible for thinking clearly for the boxer and ensuring his integrity.
