Activist Welsy Cruz requests political asylum on the US-Mexico border

The well-known nurse from Holguín has had to sleep on the streets in Latin American countries until she can reach the US border.


The Cuban activistWelsy Cruz, known on social networks for her support for the 9/11 prisoners and her criticism of the regime, is on the border of the United States and Mexico to request political asylum.

About a year ago, Welsy left Cuba and began a difficult migratory route to reach the United States. In interview withMario J. Pentón, the woman told of the work she has had to face after leaving her country under pressure from State Security.

"I am that nurse who within Cuba always fought for freedom, for change in the system. I have been out of the country for a year, in exile.It has been very hard For me, I got sick, I slept on the streets, I was cold, but I don't want to cause pity," she said and assured that she experienced a stage of learning that has made her stronger.

This Cuban worked asoncology emergency service nurse from the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University Hospital in Holguín. She was expelled from her workplace for demonstrating on July 11, 2021 calling for political change. She is one of the best-known female voices in the opposition.

A year agotraveled from Cuba to Guyana and from there to Mexico, where he is in a vulnerable situation, on the border with the United States, asking for help to achieve his political asylum process.

"They never saw Welsy asking for help, or a recharge, or anything, but today I have to get rid of that shame and I have to do it, becauseI am at the gates of freedom. I have an approved visit butI don't have the money for the tickets That's why I'm asking for help," he said.

He directed hismessage to the Cuban exile, to those who supported her in her direct from Cuba, protested in the streets of the island or when she was so many timesdetained and beaten by State Security. "Please, I ask everyone who can, help me enter the United States," she said moved.
