Authorities reported that a three-year-old girl who fell from the fourth floor of an apartment complex in the city ofTampa, in Florida's Hillsborough County, died after being in intensive care since the weekend.
"As a parent, I know the lengths a parent is willing to go to ensure the safety of their child. It is absolutely heartbreaking that a child has lost their life in such a tragic way."said Lee Bercaw, chief of the Tampa Police Department, in statements reported by thelocal press
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they mourn the loss of their son," Bercaw concluded.
After the rigorous investigation in such cases, the authorities concluded that it was an accidental event and that they will not file criminal charges.
The fall occurred around 4:40 pm last Sunday at the Mosaic Westshore Apartments, at 5300 West Kennedy Boulevard.
The little girl, whose name has not been released, was apparently playing near a railing when the tragedy occurred.
According to the police report, the girl fell from a bedroom window.
The minor immediately survived the fall and was immediately taken - but in "critical condition" - to a local hospital. However, he could not survive the severity of his injuries.
To avoid such tragic accidents, authorities recommend never leaving children alone in rooms with open windows, securing window locks, as well as not placing beds, chairs or other objects on which children can easily climb.
