Kelvyn Spinosa He is one of those many faces of Cuban acting who left Cuba pursuing a better life and today succeeds in the United States as nothing more and nothing less than as a chef.
Their social networks are full of videos and photographs showing exquisite dishes and what happens inside their kitchen before that final product comes out, which is also a work of art, but a culinary one.
However, from time to time the occasional publication comes to view remembering his years acting in soap operas such as “The Hidden Face of the Moon” or his roles in the theater.
Kelvyn was born in 1982 in a town in Cienfuegos, Rhodes, and his desire to become an actor does not come from his family but from his taste for television and those adventures that he enjoyed on the small screen as a child.
In an interview three years ago for the program “Maka's house” The actor said that he was a happy child, from the countryside, but who never missed a book before going to sleep.
At the age of 14 he went to Havana to study at the National School of Art (ENA), a huge challenge for a village boy, but it was a time of learning and one that he enjoyed very much.
Although his first steps were in the theater, he later began on television in a cooking program on the Educational Channel interviewing a chef, and right there he got the culinary bug.
From this stage are some of his roles in the police thriller “Tras la puerta” until later his first big job came as Néstor in the soap opera “La cara hidden de la Luna”.
“I never wanted to leave Cuba, that didn't cross my mind (…) I never thought about it until I had my daughter. The moment my daughter comes into my life, I begin to suffer and lack the things that were elementary, vital to be able to give her and then the idea begins to take hold," Kelvyn said in that interview.
Together with his daughter, the girl's mother, from whom he was already separated, and also the little girl's grandmother, they decided to travel to the United States thanks to the tourist visa that the four of them had. He left behind his parents, his sister, his grandparents and his entire family.
He arrived in Miami with the very clear idea of working, first in a cement factory, then in other jobs in warehouses, driving, cutting trees in New Mexico, in the desert of El Paso; and although he had contact with the world of acting through friendships, not concrete opportunities.
“It has gone well for me, I am happy and grateful for everything that has happened to me,” he said three years ago when he had not yet become a chef and was working assembling kitchen furniture.
Currently Kelvyn Espinosa enjoys his life as a chef and although it is something that moves away from acting, he found another great passion in this world.
