Until the end of September, more than 240,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans They arrived legally on humanitarian parole to the United States.

Of these four nationalities favored with the immigration benefit, Cubans occupy third place with 52,053 permits granted.

Ahead are the Haitians with 96,445 approved, of which 85,258 have traveled to the United States, and the Venezuelans - for whom the program was established since October 2022 -, who received 73,092 authorizations and 66,893 completed the trip.

Nicaragua is in fourth place, with 44,298 paroles granted and 38,070 that have already arrived on US soil.

The approval of the travel permit is not an endorsement for the automatic delivery of the parole upon appearing before the CBP authorities, who have the power to grant entry to the country.

Although CBP did not report the total number of applications submitted sinceBiden established the measure on January 5, revealed thatUntil the end of September, 265,888 migrants of the four nationalities have benefited.

With this humanitarian visa plan for asylum seekers, the Biden administration sought to control the immigration crisis and regulate entry into the country. After its implementation in January, the arrival of Cuban migrants at the US border with Mexicowas drastically reduced.

However, thechallenge of the measure in court by 21 Republican states with the intention of ending the program, together with the accumulation of unresolved applications, once again encouraged many Cubans to embark on the Central American journey, with its multiple risks, rather than wait for the slow administrative process of parole.

A total of200,287 Cubans entered the northern country through its land borders in the recently concluded fiscal year 2023 (FY2023), according to official data released last Saturday. While an as yet undisclosed number have crossed the Straits of Florida, of which at least4,210 were returned to the island, after being detained during their sea crossings, according to official statistics of the Cuban regime.

Nonetheless, uncertainty continues for thousands of parole applicants with financial sponsors, after a court order issued on August 31 ruled that the decision on the permanence of this program is postponed until the end of the year.

In May, the US government introducedchanges to the application selection process, combining the random approval of cases with attention to requests with longer waiting times.

Until July,More than 40,000 Cubans arrived in the United States benefiting from this program.

Officials from the United States and Cuba will hold a meeting on November 14 in Havananew round of talks on bilateral Migration Agreements, as reported by the State Department.
