"Almendrón" accident in Havana leaves one dead

Andcar accident in the Boyeros municipality, in Havana, claimed the life of a20 year old driver and left at least one other serious injury, according to a publication insocial networks.

The events occurred in the early hours of this Monday in theBoyeros Avenue, near the Psychiatric Hospital (Mazorra), when an old car, known in Cuba as an “almendrón,” was hit by another vehicle, indicated Internet users in the Facebook group “ACCIDENTS BUSES & TRUCKS for more experience and fewer victims!”

One of the forum members said that the driver of the car that crashed into thealmond He fled, but did not specify which vehicle caused the collision.

The images released by the members of the group show the great impact on the front of the crashed car, which was removed next to the central divider of the avenue.

Another user pointed out that “all the cars pass by at a million speeds (very fast) and run away” and added that “those drivers should have their licenses taken away.”

Although neither the authorities nor the official press have referred to the events, the comments on the page indicated that a vehicle from the Criminalistics Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior was at the scene.

Several forum members dedicated words to the deceased young man, who has not been identified, and wished the injured person a speedy recovery.

October had a fateful farewell in terms of accidents with almendrones.

At the end of that month,one lost direction after hitting a pothole on Calzada de San Miguel, in Havana.

The events occurred on the night of Saturday, October 21 at the corner of Calzada de San Miguel and Second Street. “Pothole that you know. He broke his address,” reported a user on social networks.

Also, around those dates,an almendrón collided with a truck in the distribution Las Yaguas, of the Habanero municipality of Marianao.

In the comments of the publication that appeared on Facebook, several users suggested that the possible cause of the crash was that “the almendrón lost its direction and hit the truck.”
