Two dead when a motorcycle hits a tractor on Havana Avenue

Two people lost their lives this Wednesday after an engine hit a tractor that crashed on Boyeros Avenue in Havana.

According to witnesses to the event, the driver of the motorcycle, who was an only child, died at the scene. A young woman who was with him also died before reaching the hospital.

The tractor driver –who supposedly committed an infraction and crossed the avenue– He fledsaid netizens in the groupFacebook "BUS & TRUCK ACCIDENTS for more experience and fewer victims!".

An Internet user said that the driver of the tractor was detained near the May Day market, a little less than a kilometer from the place.of the accident.

The incident occurred on Boyeros Avenue – a fast road that connects Santiago de Las Vegas, the airport and the city of Havana – at the intersection with May Day, shortly before reaching Santiago de Las Vegas.

"The culprit of the accident was the driver of a tractor who made an improper turn, crossing in front of the motorcycle and then fled," commented one Internet user.

Several Cuban drivers noted the increase in motorcycle accidents on the island, many of them as a result of the poor state of the roads and asked to drive with extreme caution, especially at the end of the year.

Between January and October Cuba registered6,965 traffic accidents between January and October 2023, which represents an increase of 12.8% in relation to the incidents that occurred in the same period of the previous year, according to official figures.

The almost 7 thousand accidents that occurred in the first ten months of this year left the balance of562 deaths and 5,643 injured.
