Several MLB teams would once again have the hiring of Cuban outfielder Yasiel Puig in their sights. sources told journalist Francys Romero.

“Puig's status has changed in recent months and the Tampa Bay Rays have been one of the organizations that has monitored him,” Romero said on his networks.

Puig's character, which led him to lose his temper very easily, and his involvement in an illegal betting case, seemed to have buried what was at one time one of the most promising careers in the Major Leagues.

Recently, Puig spoke about his impulsive character which led him to get into several fights during his time in MLB and he attributed it to his lack of knowledge of English, which made him lose his temper in tense situations.

“Anything you said to me in 2013 in English, even if you told me it was nice, I wanted a fight. I didn't know English and he [Madison Kyle Bumgarner, nicknamed "MadBum"] got upset because I hit a home run for him," Puig said, interviewed for the TikTok channel homeplatehd.

“The first words that come out in English are the bad ones,” Puig said in an interview in which he reviewed some of his episodes of violence on the ground. “In San Francisco all the fights were with Bumgarner and another with the catcher [Hundley]… So, the other fight I had when I was with Cincinnati, with Pittsburgh… And another one with Pedro Strop, who put the ball here,” he said, pointing. Leg.

The new interest in the Cuban is due to his performance in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVP), where Puig continues to demonstrate his quality with the Tiburones de la Guaira, team with which he has already accumulated 11 home runs since he debuted with the ninth on November 27.

In this winter season, the 33-year-old player from the Cuban province of Cienfuegos has in his score a total of 12 full return hits, in which the events with his current team are added plus one in the Dominican Republic, during the short time he was with the Eastern Stars.

Puig had already written his name in the history books, when last December he became one of the Tiburones de La Guaira players who has reached the fastest number of 10 home runs in a season, achieved in 89 at-bats.

In this way, Crazy Horse He was named Aba Ultra Player of the Month of the Venezuelan League in December.

The former major leaguer obtained the distinction with 52% of the votes of the accredited press to cover the incidents of the 2023-2024 season.

Puig has not seen action in the Major Leagues since 2019. In 7 seasons in the Majors, he averaged 277, with 132 home runs and 415 RBIs.
