Political prisoner from 11J in serious condition in intensive care in Havana hospital

The prisoner was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

Cuban activists reported that the 11J political prisoner Raidel Núñez Castro, 26, is hospitalized in serious condition at the La Covadonga medical center in Havana, after he had a seizure in prison and did not receive immediate help.

The young man, from San Miguel del Padrón, was sentenced to 3 years in prison and was in prison camp 1580, called "El 16", when he had the health event, activist Marcel Valdés said on his networks. .

"They tell me that Raidel's eyes rolled back in his head and he lost consciousness. No health personnel ever came to help him. The prisoners themselves were the ones trying to help and they screamed for help. They didn't even call an ambulance with specialized personnel. They took him in a cage truck and they tell me that the prisoners talked to him and Raidel didn't recognize anyone," he said.

The note holds the prison authorities responsible for the political prisoner's health.

In 2022Núñez Castro was convicted to three years in prison by the Arroyo Naranjo Municipal Popular Court that tried several 11J protesters in San Miguel del Padrón.

In the last two years dozens of prisoners have diedin custody from the authorities, including several 9/11 protesters.

In November, Luis Barrios Díaz died under strange circumstances at the age of 36, and his relatives reported that his death could have been avoided and considered it a murder by the Cuban prison authorities.

Carlos Hernández, brother-in-law of the protester, published a video explaining thatprisoner was denied medical attention despite the fact that the doctors recommended his immediate admission, because there was no oil to relieve the police who had to take care of him or antibiotics at the Miguel Enriquez hospital in Havana.

The young Cuban was in Prison 1580 in San Miguel del Padrón, and since August he became ill with pneumonia, states the publication, posted on Twitter by Prisoners Defender.
