They arrest the alleged murderer of a Cuban doctor in Las Tunas

Cuban authorities arrested a suspect in the murder of the doctor in the province of Las TunasIvan de Prada Silva, whose body was found on Sunday in the Puerto Padre municipality.

The news portalCubanet reported that members of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) detained a suspect who is detained in the Operations unit, in Las Tunas.

According to the source consulted by that medium, the police authorities have two hypotheses of what happened. The first points to a robbery to steal the doctor's motorcycle as well as money, and the second that it is a crime of passion.

De Prada Silva was murdered on Saturday night, January 27, and hisbody was found at dawn on Sunday at the entrance of the "Assault to the powder magazine" cooperative, in the Puerto Padre municipality.

CubaNet details that the doctor's motorcycle was later found dumped in a secluded place and that the victim's phone was inside the vehicle.

The doctor was dedicated to distributing money sent through remittances and according to several close friends he had left around two in the afternoon on Saturday to take care of some deliveries.

"Iván de Prada was a doctor by profession. He spent most of his career in management positions in Public Health institutions. He became municipal director of Public Health of Puerto Padre in 2013 and served in the direction of the Rafael Left polyclinic," details the publication.

He claims that he was also part of the regime's medical missions in Venezuela and Bolivia.

Several doctors have lost their lives in the context of the growing wave of violence on the island.

At the beginning of December 2023, the Cuban pediatrician Efrén Padrón was murdered in the town of San Cristóbal, province of Artemisa. The renowned doctor, who had recently returned from a foreign mission, was executed by criminals in front of his own residence.

Also in July of last year he was murdered supposedly forCuban doctor Pablo Corrales steals his motorcycle, who works at the Cristóbal Labra Polyclinic, in the Havana municipality of La Lisa.
