The Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) of Cuba predicts strong swells for this Tuesday in areas of the northern coast of the west of the country, including the Havana seawall, which could cause coastal flooding.
In itsbulletin Most recently, the Weather Forecast Center (CNP) warns that the winds will be from southwest to west in the west in the morning and that in the afternoon they will blow from west to northwest at a speed between 25 and 40 km/h.
Given these conditions, strong swells are expected to occur in areas of the northern western and central coast that “They could generate light to moderate coastal flooding in low areas of the northern western coast, including the Havana coast.”
The report specifies that there will also be waves on the rest of the coasts, increasing in the afternoon to swells in the south, west and center.
The territories on the southern coast of the center and east of the country will not escape the flooding either, as there will be light coastal flooding mainly in the gulfs of Ana María and Guacanayabo, as well as in the south of Pinar del Río and Isla de la Juventud.
Regarding precipitation, cloudy weather will predominate in the eastern half with numerous showers, rains and isolated thunderstorms.
In the rest of the national territory it will be partly cloudy. In the west during the afternoon, some showers and rain are forecast, which will be more isolated in the center.
Maximum temperatures will reach values between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius in the west and up to 29 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country.
Temperatures at night will be between 17 and 20 degrees Celsius in the west and center, and up to 22 degrees Celsius in the east.
In the last few hours the weather has been especially bad in the west of the country, asa severe local storm hit several municipalities in Havana this Sunday, leaving considerable damage, especially in Diez de Octubre and Playa.
The gusts of wind and intense rains caused many trees to fall, significant damage to the electrical service and scattered debris along the streets, complicating mobility and putting citizens at risk.
The meteorological service had previously closed maritime traffic in the west of the country due to adverse weather conditions.
