A couple of videos shared on social networks left testimony of the situation of public transportation in Havana, where on many occasions travelers have to risk traveling while literally hanging from the buses.
The image of clusters of people hanging from the doors of buses is not new in Cuba, a country that has been suffering for decades from a transportation crisis that makes the complicated life of Cubans even more difficult, marked by all kinds of shortages.
With a scarce and obsolete public transportation fleet, the Cuban regime is now facing an alleged fuel shortage that, authorities say, affects all spheres of life in the country, from transportation to electricity generation.
At the beginning of February, the Ministry of Transportation (MITRANS) of Cuba announced that, taking into accountthe extension in the application of the new fuel prices, I also knowsuspended the increase in both state and non-state transportation rates.
MITRANS authorities stressed that no increases can occur in private transportation since the prices agreed with non-state forms of management have been postponed until further notice.
In addition, they indicated that all prices for urban, suburban, rural services, local boats and trains, medibus, among other local services provided by state entities, including interprovincial transportation, were maintained.
