The United States returns 25 Cuban rafters to the island

Two of the migrants were on conditional release for compliance with criminal sanctions and will be made available to the courts to have their benefits revoked.

The United States authorities 25 rafters were returned to Cuba on Wednesday, among whom was a minor, who left the country illegally on February 15 through Playa Baracoa, Artemisa.

A Coast Guard vessel returned the 25 irregular migrants to the Port of Orozco, Artemis municipality of Bahía Honda.

The group was made up of 16 men, eight women and one minor, who were intercepted at sea by US authorities.

According to the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), Two of the returned migrants were on conditional release for compliance with criminal sanctions and will be placed at the disposal of the courts. to have that condition revoked.

This is the seventh operation to return Cuban migrants from the United States by sea so far this year. Total, 131 rafters have been returned.

On February 9, the US Coast Guard (USCG) repatriated five rafters to Cuba who were detained near the coast of Florida.

The migrants were rescued on January 29 by a boater 92 miles west of Cuba.

"Our maritime borders are not open to irregular migration," the USCG clarified.

On January 25, the USCG repatriated 10 Cuban rafters who were detained in international waters about 55 miles northeast of Matanzas.

Just five days ago, the agency also handed over to the Cuban Ministry of the Interior another 28 migrants, who were intercepted about 30 miles southeast of Dry Tortugas.

"The Coast Guard is committed to deterring illegal maritime migration," Coast Guard District Seven warned on Twitter.
