The MININT admits that in Santiago de Cuba there are criminal gangs that "implement terror"

"Let them know that we know who are the members of groups that hinder public order and tranquility and we are going to go to them."

The Ministry of the Interior (MININT) recognized, during a recent meeting with residents of the Abel Santamaría (El Salao) neighborhood, in Santiago de Cuba, the presence of criminal gangs dedicated to "implementing terror" among the residents.

The authorities asked for a vote of confidence from those affected and issued a warning to criminals.

“Know that you are going to be severely punished for the acts you have committed. We have learned about the different groups that exist and operate in these places.Know that we know who are the members of those groups that today hinder order and citizen tranquility and we are going to go to them", explained a MININT officer in a video broadcast on the networks by journalist Yosmany Mayeta.

“Tell you that the bodies of the Ministry of the Interior are fully available to combat these types of events, which cannot continue to occur,” the officer told the neighbors about the existence of gangs that carry knives and terrorize citizens. .

He specifically referred to the case of young David Enrique Perdomo Álvarez, a 26-year-old lineman, whom one of those gangscut off his right hand, an incident for which there are already five detainees, according to the MININT officer.

In the final segment of the speech, incredulous at the promises of the MININT, a woman said that last year her son was attacked at the door of her house by two hooded men, and denounced that until now the case had not been resolved.

“No one has come to my house to give me an answer”, he declared, a statement that the officer responded by indicating that he was not aware of the incident and that an answer would be given.

Despite the vote of confidence requested by the MININT, on social networks many Santiago residents have been skeptical of the promises of severity towards criminals, and ask that it be true.

"They cannot come to a district where there is not just one gang, but several, and promise to trust them, that the criminal acts will end. When we know that it will not be like that, that everything remains the same, and that it will continue that way. They have not resolved the cases that have happened, how do they expect the people to trust. Don't panic," concluded a Cuban in statements collected by Yosmany Mayeta.
