The Cuban people experienced another day of strong blackouts this Thursday, with more than 1,300 MW of maximum impact reported by the Electrical Union (UNE) in its part this Friday, which summarized the energy behavior of the previous day.
The outlook does not improve in view of the forecast for this March 8, Women's Day, which foresees a deficit of no less than 1,416 MW during peak hours.
Lázaro Guerra Hernández, technical director of the Electrical Union (UNE) of Cuba, explained in statements to the Cuban Television Information System that “yesterday was a very complex day from the point of view of the effects on the electrical service.”
The manager specified that “there were several situations that coincided” to cause the high level of damage. Added to the several units out of service due to breakdowns or maintenance is the omnipresent fuel shortage and an increase in consumption associated with a rise in temperatures.
“We have a significant level of fuel unavailability in the case of the floating plants at the Mariel and Moa sites. Today there is an additional complexity because the Moa site will not have fuel today, but tomorrow it will," he explained.
The maximum impact on Thursday was 1,367 MW at 6:00 p.m. not coinciding with peak hours.
Yesterday the service was affected due to a deficit in generation capacity from 04:49 a.m. and the service could not be restored during the early hours of today. The availability of the National Electroenergy System (SEN) at 07:00 hours was 1,615 MW and the demand was 2,640 MW. This has determined an impact on the daytime schedule for this Friday of 1,300 MW.
Units 1 and 3 of the CTE Santa Cruz, unit 4 of the CTE Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and unit 2 of the CTE Felton are out of service due to a breakdown.
Unit 8 of the CTE Mariel, unit of the CTE Guiteras and unit 6 of the CTE Nuevitas are under maintenance.
This Friday's report indicates that the limitations in thermal generation are 326 MW.
In addition, 79 distributed generation plants, the Moa fuel plant and the Santiago de Cuba patana are out of service due to fuel for a total of 852 MW. There are 15 plants with low coverage (78 MW).
For peak hours, the entry of unit 4 of the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes CTE with 40 MW is estimated, the completion of unit 6 of Energas Jaruco 45 MW, the entry of unit 3 of the Santa Cruz CTE with 54 MW and the entry of Distributed Generation engines that are awaiting maintenance and their use is authorized with 100 MW.
With this forecast, an availability of 1,854 MW and a maximum demand of 3,200 MW is estimated for the peak hour, for a deficit of 1,346 MW, so if the forecast conditions continue, an impact of 1,416 MW is predicted during this time, he concludes. the UNE in its dramatic prognosis.
CTE Antonio Guiteras is expected to rejoin the SEN on March 18. Lázaro Guerra affirms that the maintenance work of the important thermoelectric plant, the largest in the country, remains according to the schedule.
