A 26-year-old Cuban was sentenced by the Provincial Court of the province of Sancti Spíritus to 18 years of deprivation of liberty for the theft of a large sum of money from the Popular Camping Company of that territory.
The damage is valued at a total of 7,968,669.50 Cuban pesos and was detected by the continuous movements of money that were made between the entity's accounts. The complaint was made on May 24, 2023, according to the official newspaper.Escambray.
The young man, who was not identified during the text and who fulfilled the position ofspecialist B in Economic Management of the Accounting and Financial Department belonging to the Sancti Spíritus Popular Camping Company, transferred cash to his personal account up to four times in one month, from September 2022 to May 2023, the note states.
The first operation he performed was foramount of 86,556.50 Cuban pesos, held on September 15, 2022, and100,000, the last one, carried out on May 11 of the following year. According toEscambray, that month totaled 200,000 pesos, the smallest amount embezzled in the entire period, while in January 2023 it reported 1,650,000, the highest figure for 30 days.
Oscar Ramón Rodríguez Socarrás, director of Inspection and Internal Control of the Campismo Popular Business Group, indicated in the oral hearing that the accused edited the company's account statements in a PDF to Word converter, after making the transactions to his accounts, and thus, eliminated transfers to your magnetic card.
Following the company's complaint, the police arrested the young man at his home in the municipality of Trinidad, in the south of the province, and seized the items purchased with the stolen money.
The Popular Provincial Court of Sancti Spíritus sentenced the accused to 18 years of deprivation of liberty, for being the author of a crime of falsification of banking or commercial documents of a continuous nature, as a means or end to commit embezzlement.
As accessory sanctions, they confiscated the equipment that was purchased with this money, including those that were transferred to other people, such as: flat screen television (55 inches), refrigerator, refrigerator, two motors, among others.
In addition, the Court established and declared civil liability that obliges the person involved to repair the damages caused to the Sancti Spíritus Camping Company, to which he must replace the more than seven million pesos stolen.
The accused filed appeals before the Supreme People's Court of the island.
Likewise, five people from the aforementioned company were administratively fined, including the general director, the deputy director, the accounting and financial director, the head of Human Resources and a specialist in the latter area, for non-compliance with the duty to preserve assets in the entity; which cleared the way for the sanctioned person to carry out his corrupt actions, the source indicated.
