After more than thirty years of searching, Miami police finally managed to arrest the third man involved in a brutal crime that occurred in the summer of 1991 in Hialeah.
Walter Martínez, 51, was detained at Miami International Airport last Wednesday, ending a long search that began on July 20, 1991, the outlet reported.Local 10.
According to police reports, that day Martínez, who was 18 years old at the time, along with Elpidio Reyes (19 years old) and Ulises Reyes (18), entered the residence of Manuel Palacios on West 74th Street under the pretext of buying a car.
However, what began as a supposed business transaction turned into an act of ruthless violence.
The three men bound and gagged Palacios, while his 12-year-old son watched helplessly. The teenager said that he took refuge in a room and listened as the three men told his father to give him the money and jewelry.
Ultimately, Palacios was found on the steps of his home with multiple gunshot wounds, and died shortly after in the hospital.
Although Elpidio and Ulises Reyes were captured and convicted in later years for their participation in the crime, Martínez had managed to evade justice.
Martinez now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, armed robbery, kidnapping and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
He remains held without bail at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and is expected to face a lengthy legal process.
