A young Cuban is found dead in the Sagua de Tánamo river, Holguín

A young man from the municipality of Sagua de Tánamo, in the province of Holguín,appeared dead this Sunday in a local river,allegedly murdered, according to sources close to the victim.

The deceased was identified asKevin Luis and they found him lifeless in the morning, floating in the La Margarita River, in a place converted into a landfill, reported communicator Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, whoposted photos of the discovery of the body.

The reporter noted that “the precise details of the unfortunate event are still unknown,” but assured: “Many people have confirmed to me that he was possibly murdered.”

The victim lived with his family on Hugo Argüelles Street, in Bazán, Primero de Mayo neighborhood, and was the father of a child between four and five years old, according to Mayeta. The journalist said he was in contact with relatives of the deceased to find out the details of thetragic event.

The death of Kevin Luis has caused great commotion in the town, where friends, acquaintances and neighbors reacted with indignation and pain at the crime, of which there is no official confirmation so far.

“Brother, what a pain, wake up, and the first thing is your news.I hope that justice is done and the maximum punishment falls on whoever did this. May God have you in his holy glory and strength for your family and friends who love you. RIP Kevin Luis,” he wrote in apost a Facebook his friend Héctor Luis Naranjo Lamont.

Another young woman also left her feelings in the comments: “It is sad to wake up with such bad news, my condolences to her family and friends.No one has the right to take anyone's life and leave their little one without a dad, the pain of that mother that will never heal.. Justice is what they have to do. EPD Kevin Luis.”

Relatives and other people close to the young man expressed in both publications their hope that the police will capture the author or authors of the crime and justice will be done.

Many users regretted theescalation of violence and crime experienced in Cuba, and specifically in that Holguín municipality; the lack of tranquility among citizens due to the increase in crimes and the ineffectiveness of the police to confront this situation.

The Cuban government has denied the increase in robberies, assaults and murders in the country, and attributes its alleged increase to the visibility and dissemination that social networks give to these events. Usually, the regime does not publish statistics on criminal acts.

However,In some provinces the authorities have admitted the growth of crime rates in recent times, although they insist on denying that there is an increase in crimes against the life and integrity of people, despite frequent complaints from Cubans on digital platforms.
