A minor responsible for the accident in Hialeah that resulted in the deaths of two Cuban women had stolen his father's car

The police reported that the driver is a 14-year-old teenager without a license, who decided to take a spin with his friends in his parents' car.

The Hialeah police confirmed on Thursday the arrest of a 14-year-old teenager responsible for the traffic accident that claimed the lives of a Cuban woman and her aunt, although they did not disclose his identity or the charges he faces.

In the incident that occurred on the night of last Tuesday on the 400 block of Southeast 5th Street, Yarina García Hernández, 39, and her aunt Gloria Esther Hernández, 71, lost their lives, while Liliana Hernández Molina, Yarina's mother, aged 65, was severely injured.

According to officials, the teenager took his parents' car to go for a ride with friends when he collided with another vehicle at an intersection, NBC Miami reported.

Inside the other car were a mother, her daughter, and an aunt who had gone out to buy food.

Eddie Rodríguez, spokesperson for the Hialeah Police, explained on Wednesday that three minors were traveling in the vehicle responsible for the accident. He added that the driver, a 14-year-old without a license, took the car without permission, which led to the tragic incident.

According to Rodríguez, the teenager's parents had no idea that he had taken the car.

"They live close enough and heard the sound of the crash. They went outside and realized that their vehicle was missing," said the Hialeah Police spokesperson. "They decided to head to the corner where the accident occurred. To their surprise, their vehicle was involved in the accident."

After the initial collision, one of the cars struck a third vehicle that was parked nearby and had no occupants.

"It's a very tragic story; we are praying for the family, as they have just lost two members," Rodríguez said. "Today, we have an entire family shattered," reported NBC Miami.

Journalist Javier Díaz posted on Facebook this Thursday that after the accident in which two Cuban women died and a third person was seriously injured, the family requested assistance to organize the two funerals through the Gofundme platform.
